Thumbprints ingredients

  • 1⁄2 c butter
  • 1⁄4 c Brown sugar - packed
  • 1 Eggs; separated
  • 1⁄2 t vanilla
  • 1 c flour
  • 1⁄4 t Salt
  • 3⁄4 c Walnuts; finely chopped
  • Red currant jelly 4 center
  • Black currant jelly 4 cntr

Cooking Thumbprints

1. DESCRIPTION: Jelly jewels in a butter cookie nest dusted with nuts.
2. Heat oven to 350. Mixi butter, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla thoroughly.
3. Work in flour and salt until dough holds together.
4. Shape dough by teaspoonfuls into 1-inch balls.
5. Beat egg white slightly.
6. Dip each ball into egg white, then roll in nuts.
7. Place 1 apart on ungreased baking sheet.
8. Press thumb deeply into center of each.
9. Bakei 10 minutes or until light brown.
10. Immediately remove from baking sheet.
11. Fill thumbprints with jelly.
12. TERRY'S NOTES: I like to fill cookies while still warm---it melts the jelly evenly in the hole so that it's not a blob sitting there looking at you. These also freeze beautifully if separated by layers of wax paper (so the jelly doesn't smear) and wrapped well (or stored in plastic containers).
